5 Top Tips For Beautiful Winter Skin

As the nights draw in and the days get colder, the winter weather can often play havoc with our skin. Exposing our skin to the elements can leave it feeling dry and in need of some extra care. Follow these 5 top tips for beautiful winter skin.

  1.  Exfoliation is important for your skin throughout the year and should always be a key part of your skin routine to keep it looking youthful and fresh. It is usually enough for the rest of the year to exfoliate once a week, but in winter, increase this to twice a week to get rid of dead skin cells. Exfoliation will help to stimulate & renew the skin to give a bright and radiant complexion.

  1. Moisturise. The winter weather means cold air, harsh wind and air con, which do not do our skin any favours and can lead to dryness. To combat this, moisturise morning and evening using an oil-based moisturiser rather than your water based summer cream. Find a moisturiser with an SPF in; using an SPF should not just be limited to summer use, it is always a good idea, even in winter and protects the skin from harsh UV rays outside, as well as through windows at home, in the office and on the daily commute. This is especially important if it snows, to repel the sun’s reflection. Finally, don’t forget about the rest of your body and take care to moisturise the more stubborn areas on the body such as the elbows and knees, which need a little more attention in the winter.

  1. Serums are an important weapon to protect and nourish the skin from the harsh winter weather. Just as you may put a hair mask on to give your hair a deep conditioning boost, your skin can benefit greatly from this too. A serum can give your skin the intensive care that it needs as we get used to the colder weather conditions. Use for 30 days every evening to prepare and repair the skin.

  1. Be kind to your skin. Avoid harsh cleansers, toners & masks and find alcohol free products that hydrate and protect.

  1. What you put in shows on the outside. Firstly drink more water, this will ensure that you keep your skin hydrated and is the first step in arming yourself against the winter elements. Finally, as well as the odd Christmas treat, make sure you are eating the right foods. Plenty of oily fish, fruit and vegetables will leave your skin healthy and glowing.
