Combining Osteopathy, Sports Therapy & Massage (Coming soon Acupuncture)

Osteopathy is a holistic approach to the entire neuro-musculoskeletal system (includes both spine and limbs and muscles and joints).

Osteopathy follows the principle that the body is a unit and therefore each tissue is closely integrated with one another and therefore cannot be isolated in assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

A range of techniques are used in Osteopathy including; manipulation, joint articulations, mobilisations, soft tissue techniques including neuromuscular and muscle energy techniques, and prescribed exercises.

What to expect at Consult

At consultation a thorough case history will be taken, involving questions regarding to the problem you are presenting with. Questions such as; when did the pain start? What were you doing when the pain started? Questions about the heart, lungs and digestive system will also be asked. Lifestyle questions will help me determine predisposing and maintaining factors for your presenting problem. As much information as possible is gathered here, as the information is vital to making a diagnosis.

After the case history, you will be asked to undress to your underwear for an assessment to take place. This is essential to follow the ‘body is a unit’ principle. During the assessment you will be asked to carry out a range of movements and orthopaedic tests- this is all to gather more information. After the initial assessment, you will be able to cover areas that are not being treated.

Consultations take up to an hour and will usually include treatment- the length of treatment depends on how complicated the case is.

You may be given self-care advice and exercises, I cannot stress enough how important these are for you to carry out on a regular basis as these will aid the healing process.
