Want to improve your strength and posture?


The Dumbell Military Press is a very useful shoulder exercise, utilising many muscles in the shoulders, arms, and rotator Cuff.

This exercise helps to strengthen not only the Deltoids and Triceps, but also the Rhomboids and Trapezius muscles of the upper back. These muscles assist in stabilising the shoulder blades which is essential in maintaining a good posture.

1. Using an overhand grip that is wider than the shoulders hold a barbell high up across the collar bones with your palms facing forward.

2. Position your feet slightly wider than the shoulders with your weight spread equally between the heels and toes. Also keep the core engaged.

3. Strictly eliminating any momentum or ‘bounce’ from the legs drive the bar up strongly by using the arms and shoulders. Exhale as you push.

4. As you lower the bar back down from overhead take your time in completing the movement. Inhale as you lower the bar.

5. Aim to complete 3 sets of 12 to 15 repetitions with 60 secs recovery.
